[Midtown]

We walked north from The Empire State Building towards Central Park, taking in more than a few shops and passing some famous landmarks and some un-famous hustlers strutting their stuff in the hope of making a few bucks. Genuine Oakley sunglasses for $10 or Gucci watches for $15, as long as you bought them from a retailer whose premises were a suitcase.

For good reason FDNY T-shirts, hats and baseball caps were on sale and being worn everywhere. Likewise every fire station had it's own poignant memorial. In the few days we were there we came across several delegations from fire crews in other cities who had come to show solidarity. The station below was on 8th Avenue between 42nd and 54th streets.
