One of the many churches in the city centre.

The Limmat runs through Zurich feeding into the lake at the south of the city. In the city centre there are many attractive buildings adjoining the river, though sadly few of them serve beer. Even so, it's a pleasant place to spend a sunny afternoon.

The river is bordered on both sides by small hills. The picture on the left is the view from a little way up the east bank, looking down on one of the many churches.

This is the view looking north from slightly further down than the previous vantage point.

The Niederdorf.

The Niederdorf runs parallel to the river on the east side. It is made up of many restaurants, bars, and, erm, strip clubs. However the atmosphere is not generally seedy. In fine weather it is bustling with people out for a good night in one of the many fine bars and restaurants.

A very noisy church.

Just above the Europabrücke there is this very fine looking church, overlooking a vineyard. Like most of the other churches in Zürich though it insists on making an ungodly racket with its bells when all decent people are trying to sleep or to watch TV.

The strangest bar in Zürich.

On the bank of the Limmat, near the Hardbrücke sits this very fine bar, made from a converted railway carriage. On a summer's afternoon it is generally packed with some of the more alternative Swiss. Some of the bar staff have been known to sport a selection of needle marks in their upper arms.
